Big Brother star reveals her extraordinary body results

Former Big Brother star-turned-influencer Krystal Hipwell has showed off her incredible body results after changing her diet.

The 38-year-old revealed in a post shared to Instagram that she used to be a vegan but has now changed to a carnivore diet.

She explained that the changes have helped her gain seven kilograms and tone her body shape.

Krystal shared a before photo which showed her with a flat stomach and wrote: ‘Vego + smashing myself with high intensity training.’

She then posted an image flaunting her pert derrière and toned legs, alongside the words: ‘(Almost) Carnivore + predominantly weight training and very little cardio.’

‘I’ve put on 7 kilos between these two pics,’ she added.

A vegan diet is a plant-based eating plan that excludes all animal products while a carnivore diet includes meat, fish and other animal foods.

Researchers from Oxford and Bristol universities previously tracked 65,000 people aged over 17 and found vegans were more than twice as likely to break a hip than meat-eaters.

Overall, vegans were 43 per cent more likely to suffer a bone fracture — which the researchers believe was because the vegans consumed less calcium, a mineral that helps build bone and protein.

However another study, published in September 2019 in the BMJ, found that meat-free meals could raise the risk of stroke by 20 per cent. The researchers suggested lower levels of vitamin B12 (found in meat, fish and eggs) could play a role.

Meanwhile, Krystal, who appeared on Big Brother in 2006, has been enjoying a life away from the spotlight following her appearance on the show.

She starred on the reality series with her mother Karen, who had her when she was just 16 years old.

During their time in the Big Brother house, Karen was evicted in the third week while Krystal came in sixth place.

They were known as the glamorous mother-daughter duo who both had breast enlargements.

However in 2021, Krystal had her breast implants removed and said at the time that the surgery marked the start of a ‘new chapter’ in her life.

She said she first got her implants ‘as a young girl searching for approval’.

Krystal clarified that she didn’t have a problem with plastic surgery, but hinted she underwent a breast enlargement at the age of 19 to please other people, not herself.

At the time, she said she had one regret about the explant surgery, which was that she didn’t get it done sooner.

‘Starting to feel more like myself. The pain has been pretty intense these past few days and having three kids stuck at home in lockdown (plus home learning) well it hasn’t exactly been the best timing,’ she said.

‘I found the pain was worse than I anticipated, and the balance between taking painkillers to numb the pain but also not wanting to be groggy around the kids has been challenging,’ she continued.

‘I’m really missing picking up my little ones and squeezing them all as tight as I can, but to my surprise I’m actually not missing my implants one bit.’

Krystal added: ‘I’m so glad it’s done and couldn’t be happier with my decision, especially now knowing how bad my rupture was.

‘Literally feeling like a weight has been lifted off my chest… If you have any questions about my experience feel free to ask away below.’

WHAT IS THE CARNIVORE DIET? AND IS IT SAFE?

Followers of the carnivore diet typically eat just meat, with no carbohydrates, vegetables, fruit, grains or nuts. Some also have dairy and fish.

Experts argue followers of such an eating regimen miss out on fibre, antioxidants and vitamins. Lacking in these nutrients can affect a person’s immunity, digestion, circulation and cognitive function.

Eliminating most of the major food groups does cause many carnivore dieters to lose weight, however, it can also lead to constipation.

Due to meat being rich in protein and fat, many followers claim they feel fuller for longer, even though they are missing out on vital nutrients.

Experts claim followers of such a diet may initially feel better due to them cutting out sugar and processed food. Yet such eating plans are often unsustainable, causing dieters to feel frustrated and defeated.

Among those who take it one step further and eat raw red meat, they are putting themselves at risk of food poisoning if they become infected with bacteria like Salmonella.

Some experts have warned against the meat-only diet, with excessive amounts of red meat previously linked to bowel cancer.

The NHS states: ‘Red meat – such as beef, lamb and pork – is a good source of protein, vitamins and minerals, and can form part of a balanced diet. But eating a lot of red and processed meat probably increases your risk of bowel (colorectal) cancer.

‘That’s why it’s recommended that people who eat more than 90g (cooked weight) of red and processed meat per day cut down to 70g, as this could help reduce your risk of bowel cancer.’
